○An Eventful December

December 2018 marks the fourth month of international MSP student’s stay in Japan. Although it has been three months, Japan never fail to amaze us and still has a lot more to offer. December also commonly remembers as the transition month where falls change to winter seasons. Temperature keeps getting low day by day and forces us to use thicker clothes in order to keep us warm. For most of us, this is our first experience of winter.

Despite our busy schedule as graduate student in GRIPS, we manage to participate in a few memorable events. One of the events is a sports event. GRIPS’s International Students Council (ISC) and Japanese Students Council (JSC) has co-organized a sports event which was held on the December 16th to promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen the relationship of the students through sports. MSP participants took part in all the games and managed to win first place in footbal, basketball, dodgeball and volleyball.

The month of December will never complete without the celebration of upcoming new year and for some, Christmast Eve. Therefore, our Japanese coursemate, Lt. Cdr. Takanori Akagi took this opportunity to hold a tour in the city of Yokohama and having pre-new year takoyaki party in his place. During the tour, we visited Car’s Gallery, Yokohama Chinatown and NYK Hikawamaru, a passenger ship constructed before World War II.

A lot of thanks to both our Japanese friends because of their heartwarming treatment and hospitality we did not really suffer the consequence of being far away from home and we really hope that we will thrive and complete this course successfully this year.
