The 9th batch MSP students paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant of the Japan Coast Guard.

Ten 9th batch students of the Maritime Safety and Security Policy Program (MSP) visited Commandant Ishii at the JCG headquarters on Friday, November 17, 2023.  They were from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, with two from Japan.

The 9th MSP program started in October 2023, and the students are taking classes at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS).

During the courtesy call, the students introduced themselves and the encouragement from Commandant Ishii was given.  Commemorative photos were taken lastly.

The students said: "We hope to enhance our advanced capabilities to deal with various maritime challenges, as well as strengthen the bonds between us that will lead to the future development of the coast guards".

Commandant Ishii gave these words of encouragements, “We hope that the studnets will develop into outstanding leaders who will be responsible for the future of your respective countries' coast guard agencies, through the program’s unique curriculum, which includes lectures on international laws and security and other academic content, as well as practical exercises.”

With the encouragement from the Commandant, the 9th batch students will learn advanced practical and applied knowledge about Maritime Safety and Security Policy at GRIPS and the Japan Coast Guard Academy for one year.  They will strive to build camaraderie and a strong human network through living together.
