Life in Tokyo

I’m Ahmad Kamil bin Abdul Halim, an officer from the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency. I am lucky to be selected to joint one special program which is Maritime Safety and Security Master Program in Japan. There are only two officers from Malaysia had been selected in this program, me and Mohamad Shukri bin Khotob .

It is very difficult because we had long left school. It was our first assignment upon arrival in Tokyo. But it did not take long for us to adapt to Japanese students with the assistance of the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), and also JICA. Not to forget the assistance provided by our course coordinator at the GRIPS, the institute where we learn.

Now, we've been in Tokyo for more than a month. During our stay here, everything goes well. In Tokyo, we have in place at the TIC, our long JICA based in Tokyo. Here, all the facilities provided are very adequate. There is also a restaurant that serves halal food. So, we do not need to break our heads to think about halal food.

Every day from Monday to Friday, our daily routine is going to the GRIPS for all classes. We will stay as long as we can in the GRIPS to fullfill our time to self-study when we don’t have classes. In this Institute, it provided very good facilities in order to make sure the environment is good for us to study.

In Weekends, beside completing the given tasks from our classes, we also had to wander around the city of Tokyo with the other coursemates. Tokyo have such nice places to visited, and I don’t want to miss them. With the help from my japanese coursemates, I was able to visited nice places around Tokyo.

Among the places that we visited are the Imperial Palace, Akiharabara, Shinjuku and Shibuya and a few more areas around Tokyo. Surprising here are one restaurant called Restaurant Upin and Entertainment, which is in conjunction with the famous cartoon character name "Upin and Ipin" in Malaysia. I did not miss the chance to try the food there. Turns out it's delicious.

Apart from that, I also had the opportunity to watch the event in Yokohama organised by the JCG. There, I've seen several demonstrations of the JCG in the rescue people drowning and how to deal with the terrorists at sea. It was so impressive and prove the JCG.

This is just a little part of my story during my time in Tokyo until now. It tookseveral days for me to tell all my experiences in Tokyo this. However, my journey as a student is still a long way here. What I need to do is to work hard to ensure that I can achieve success as expected.
