The beginning of New Year

It has already been four months since the MSP started last October. I assumed that all of my classmates have encountered and (hopefully) enjoyed various experiences in Japan. However, the new experience is not only for their property. Having a conversation with friends who have a different point of view makes my MSP life very enjoyable. Knowing different thoughts and perceptions is a new experience for me. It is, of course, happening in the everyday classroom when we discuss certain issues together. But what I found the most interesting is when I was told something which is common for Japanese people. I use this opportunity to introduce some of the examples to share a part of life in MSP.
The first example is "Seasons". For Japanese, it is so natural that there are four different seasons in a year, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, and each season has different characteristics. Although we have not experienced every season yet, it seems that winter grasps the hearts of my classmates most. One night, we had a conversation in the cabin and suddenly some of my classmates went out of the balcony without wearing any jacket. I was shocked and told them to put some jackets on. But they said that they wanted to feel the coldness of the Japanese winter with a big smile. This event reminded me that whether we can enjoy certain issues or not totally depends on how we look at the issue.
The second example is "Static electricity". This is also common for most of the Japanese people in winter. However, for those who have never experienced it before, the first impression of static electricity was significant. Since, it is accompanied with pain, looking at how they react and manage it was interesting. While some of my classmates were struggling to cope with unknown causes of pain, at the same time, it seems to tickle their intellectual curiosity too. They were interested in the mechanism of static electricity. This example reminds me that there might be two kinds of people, one is those who just accept the new environment, another is those who try to understand it, instead. It would be easy for us to just join new circumstance and follow pre-existing customs. However, if we really think to improve the given environment, we should never lose the sense of curiosity.
Spending time with friends who have different thoughts, cultures, and customs makes my life in MSP very meaningful. I appreciate this given environment and would like to enjoy the rest of the period with my lifetime friends. This month, we have completed our first semester. Although there is still a long way to complete the whole program, I believe all of my classmates are looking forward to reaching the goal together.
Lastly, on behalf of the 4th batch, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for those who concerned our progress.
