○NEW YEAR CELEBRATION IN TOKYO.
Prepared by : Haidzir Fauzi

One of the moment that should not be missed to celebrate in Tokyo is celebrating New Year. Since we had the opportunity to celebrate new year, we decided to visit Shibuya Crossing, which is one of the most famous spot to celebrate new year in Japan, especially in Tokyo. We took train from Hatagaya Station to Shibuya Station, and the train was almost full with the people who were going to Shibuya to celebrate the new year as well. We arrived at 10.00 pm, and to our surprise, the place was already full with people, with very limited space to get closer to main stage. Before countdown, we were entertained by traditional Japanese musical and live performances from Japanese singers. As the time got closer o countdown, the more crowd gathered together and started to sing loudly and the weather was very cold. People got more excited as the countdown started, and at exactly 0000hrs, the people started to jump and sing loudly, and some of them make new year wishes.

I was very amazed on how police controlled the crowd, without any trouble caused by a lot of people gathered at Shibuya crossing. Just after the celebration was over, they started to clean the street immediately. At first, our plan was to have dinner at Shibuya but all the restaurants were full, and we ended up by having sandwiches as our dinner from convenient store. We enjoyed sandwiches in very cold midnight and this was one of the experience that I will never forget in my life. We went back to TIC on train full with passengers and arrived safely at TIC on 2.30 am.I was very surprised to receive new year wish card from Masako-san and Kaji-san, which they mailed from post office. This is the first time in my life that I received such new year wish card.

In general, the new year celebration in japan is difference from Malaysia, as in Malaysia we don’t have a very large crowd during the countdown. I hope to enjoy more new experiences in Japan, which I will never forget in my life.

To Kaji-san and Masako-san, thank you very much for very kind wishes.
