Visit to USS Ronald Reagan
TR Daniel

The third batch of MSP participants and the students of International Security Studies Programme had a rare opportunity to visit United States Aircraft Carrier ‘USS Ronald Reagan’ Stationed at Yokusuka port on 14 March 2018. It was the first time for all the students to be onboard a United States Aircraft Carrier in their life and everybody was amazed by the capabilities and its potential.

The firsthand experience to see how the Nimitz class nuclear powered aircraft carrier with 97,000 tons of displacement and 4225 crew members is deployed to project power and to ensure maritime security in and around Sea of Japan is remarkable. Having seen how two allies, Japan and United States working together sharing the base and involved in maintenance and repair work of the giant aircraft carrier to keep it in good condition to achieve common goal is also noteworthy.

Further, students were amazed by the generous hospitality of the crew and kind information and experience sharing by the organisers. All in all, the visit was a very educative, informative and once in a life time opportunity for all MSP students and members of maritime community.
